Sacramento Roseville Wedding Portrait Photographer -- updated February 28, 2010

Bio page - About the photographer

Doug showed an immediate talent for photography around age 12 while visiting Yosemite National Park. He photographed scenery using a dorky fixed-focus camera -- but his photo compositions showed strong graphic balance. In high school he received his first "real" camera, a top of the line Minolta. Doug quickly learned every aspect of this camera and began photographing for the yearbook and student newspaper - portraits, cheer squad, sports and events. In college he photographed for University of California student newspapers and almost immediately became photo editor -- doing photo selections, cropping, layout design, captioning, darkroom work, assigning photography staff, working under deadlines. Doug also performed VIP photography for UCLA's guest speaker program where he photographed celebrities including commedian Steve Allen (whom Doug got to have lunch with); Leonard Nimoy, Jack Lemmon, Phyllis Diller; scientist Jonas Salk; and three presidential candidates. Soon local magazines began picking up Doug's photography due to news events, and began hiring him for assignments. Upon receiving a bachelor of arts degree at UCLA Doug went on to work in the motion picture industry.

When Doug got married he was fascinated watching how his own wedding photographer was working -- noticing what types of poses & equipment she used. Soon Doug started asking his friends how their own wedding photography had been performed. To his shock Doug heard multiple horror stories about how their own wedding pictures had not come out well. Doug began to reason, with his background, he can do this better. Doug's work had always turned out well even under adverse circumstances and he already owned top of the line Nikon equipment.

Soon Doug began working for a studio performing wedding photography, learning from both their successes and mistakes. When the studio closed during a recession, Doug continued photographing weddings independently. Today after hundreds of weddings Doug is one of the most experienced independent wedding photographers in Northern California.

Question...
Does photography intrude on wedding guests?

Many guests have mentioned after a wedding, they hardly ever saw Doug.

--- Except when something important was going on. Then they noticed Doug was right there.

Doug stays in the background when possible. He will take charge ONLY when taking FORMALS portraits --- so these shots will get completed faster. He wants to get you back to your guests as soon as possible.

Doug's style is relaxed, often fun, and never overly controlling.

What is Doug's personal style of photographing weddings?

Doug developed quick camera and technical reflexes while photographing news events and in the motion picture industry. He photographs special moments right as they occur.

Doug captures a large number of spontaneous photos in true photojournalistic style. But that's not all --- Doug will plan out any needed specific poses. Because weddings are the rare time when you can get family members TOGETHER for pictures.

Doug's long experience with lighting, camera equipment and posing assures that treasured images will come out clear and beautiful.

How does Doug's professional experience benefit the customer?

Doug photographs weddings politely, efficiently, and mostly in the background. We believe your wedding day should be a wedding day --- not a time consuming photo shoot. With about 350 weddings experience over 20+ years, Doug has the skills to deliver.

Before you ask your cousin to photograph your wedding "free" with his fancy new camera, consider this --- Doug takes pictures that turn out great, and take less time away from your guests, than any well-meaning amateur can.
